A book that changed my life:
Careers for Bookworms and Other Literary Types. Seriously. It's why I listened to my inner bookworm and became a librarian. Otherwise, I would have continued working at the public library and the book place at the same time for little over minimum wage; that was 10 years ago, so it was a lot less money than now. smirk.
A book I've read more than once:
Domestic Arrangements by Norma Klein. This was one of my favorite Klein books, though I loved them all. In fact, before the Woolworth on Main Street went out of business I bought three or four hardcover copies of this book. I was probably thirteen.
A book I'd take with me if stuck on a desert island:
Ever-practical I'd take How to Survive on Land and Sea. If only I could find my copy. I think it was our textbook when I took an ROTC course, Mountaineering. Got me out of all those college-level Physical Eds!
A book that made me laugh:
Okay, here's two that I read this year that made me laugh: Getting Stoned With Savages: A Trip Through the Islands of Fiji and Vanuatu and The Evil B.B. Chow and Other Stories. Okay, must plug George Singleton. His Drowning in Gruel has some really funny parts. But I think you have to be RITS (raised in the South) to truly understand.
A book that made me cry:
Books don't make me cry. But seeing Brokeback Mountain had me in tears. Then I wanted to read the short story the movie was based on. It's in Annie Proulx's Wyoming Stories. One of the best short stories I've ever read.
A book I wish had been written:
An investigation of ornithological fetishists. Not that I have one, but surely those folks are out there, somewhere, just waiting to share their stories.
A book I wish had never been written:
I don't know what it's called, but it's about Rebuilding and Maintaining your 1970s hot rod. No doubt it's by Chilton. Oh, here? It's almost ten o'clock. It's dark outside. But my back-door neighbor must revvvvvvvvv his engine again and again... Never mind the noise ordinances.
A book I've been meaning to read:
Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals. Have had it checked out for a month, but haven't read it yet. Darn that knitting.
A book I'm currently reading:
Adventure Divas: Searching the Globe for a New Kind of Heroine. India. She's in India right now. Other places she visited are Cuba and Borneo. I'm not quite half-done with it.
And I tag:
Kelly: after all, she's Loving Literature!
