make way for baby

Pregstick

I took this test on 17 March because certain parts of my anatomy hurt so much that I decided I must be pregnant. We've tried since September. I went off the pill this summer. And when I didn't get pregnant immediately I was terribly disappointed. I wondered why I'd been on the pill ALL THOSE YEARS when I didn't need to be.

My gynecologist worked with me: drew blood from me twice a month, gave me tips for successful conception, etc. I even went in for a post-coital test, which he called a poor man's sperm count. Dr. J. reassured me that everything was fabulous with Ian's swimmers, so then I knew it was me.

I felt like such a loser. I felt like my body, my ovaries, were letting me down.

Now that I'm pregnant, I'm just tired all the time. No morning sickness as of the 26th of March, when I'm writing this, because I really don't want to announce it to the world that I'm having a baby until after the first trimester. We told 2/3 of our parents on Easter and then we're going to see my Dad Thursday to give him the good news. He'll be ecstatic. He and my step-mom are the type who ask and ask and ask about when we're having a baby.

At my step-mom's family reunion this fall one of my step-aunts asked me about having children. I told her I was too old. She replied that having Tracey, her youngest, at an older age was great. She said she worried less about the future and finances because she and her husband were mostly established. And I think she doted more on Tracey than she did the other girls. But the last-born gets the doting, right?

Anyway. It's just a warning that I'll be writing more baby-related posts eventually. And I'll do it in this blog, because I cannot keep up with another, separate blog. And I'll be knitting more baby-related projects, too. All about baby, it seems, I might be because, you know, NOBODY else has ever had a baby before I did, right (wink, wink)?

Congratulations!!! Having had a baby at the super-young age of 17, and then having another at age 31, I definitely vote for being older! You're more settled and more calm, which is important at 2:00 am.
