In the interest of discovering compelling reasons for my online friends and acquaintances to flock to the Tri-Cities, I visited the National Storytelling Center's website.
So rich. So right. Krispy Kreme is one of the NSF's corporate sponsors. Sorry. They are the Presenting Sponsor:
As the Presenting Sponsor of the National Storytelling Festival, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is uniting with the International Storytelling Center to advance the performance, preservation, and practice of storytelling.
The IRONY here is that although KK spreads itself all over the country, it closed two of the three chains in the Tri-Cities in the last two to ten years? Our old KK is now a Honda dealership. I think one can purchase KK doughnuts individually at one's neighborhood conveneince store (if you can stand the second-hand cigarette smoke that permeates those places AND likely sullies the KK experience, the KK product). But if you want fresh KK doughtnuts, it's off to Kingsport. I love them, but they are pure evil, no? And somehow, bless their hearts, Daylight Doughnuts isn't enough.
Still more digression: We really need a cupcake shop. Dear Deb visited the one in Charleston recently.
I'm all about IRONY these days. Usually I start my sentences with "Isn't it funny..." then correct myself. No. It's all IRONIC. Sorry to shout. Sometimes IRONY needs emphasis.
We're all obsese here in the impoverished moutains of East Tennessee anyway. Bring on the doughnuts.
My ambivalence is not something you can taste, touch, or smell. Thank heavens for small online favors.
Another thing? Is KK a restaurant? There rarely offer public bathrooms. Isn't that essential to restauranthood?
And speaking of Kingsport, my favorite blogger from Kingsport posted something weird, something foodie on her blog. She ate it. Her son ate it. Did Bubba eat it? It's identity remains up in the air. Or maybe not? Gorgeous photos anyway.
From storytelling to doughnuts to kingsport to weird foods found in publix's produce section: See how everything ties together, how it all comes back to food?
Please excuse any typos. I'm winding down from my rant. Why Kingsport anyway? Why do they get the KK? Something else... KK was mentioned in Purple Cow, which I read last night. What Godin said about KK now, I cannot recall. Funny how everything is KK for a day.
Wonder if they'll pass out doughnuts at storytelling this year? I may get a free pass, check it out, and report back.
