I don't like candy, and rarely eat it. So voluntarily going inside the Candy Barrel in Valle Crucis, NC last weekend was shocking. For one, they had tons of candy. For two, it was really crowded. And thirdly, and most importantly, there were far too many kids there. Regardless, I managed to shove my greedy-but-unsticky hands into several barrels and brought home a few samples. I ate the chocolate covered peanuts and caramel things in the car, so no photos of those. And the chocolate covered caramels, well.. they were rich and I ate a few, but the photo didn't do them justice. But wait, they're just chocolate covered caramels and aren't supposed to be aesthetic, are they?
The other things that I'm a sucker for are those Goetze creme-filled caramels. And they had strawberry ones. I didn't like them as much as the regular caramels though.
Then, the other great thing that I bought were all these old-fashioned chewing gums. Teaberry was my childhood favorite. My grandmother always carried it in her purse so that when I asked for a stick of gum, while furiously coloring in my coloring book while we spent hours attending church services, she always had one ready.
And then I got a few packs of Beeman's gums: Clove, Black Jack, and Beemans. I chewed a stick of Clove, and it made my mouth numb; a curiously pleasant experience.
