Sur la table publishes sexy gift books appropriate for various levels of cooks and grillers. I've read, studied, cooked, and given several as gifts. The ones I've given as gifts were well-received and the one I tried cooking from had ugly results; I may blog about it another time.
Everyday Grilling's photography is from four food photographers and so that, in itself, gives it a "compilation" feel, rather than a real "authored" feel. After all, it is a book published by a corporation or business or brand, rather than by a person even though nowadays those things are somewhat synonymous.
As for stand outs in the book, the Grilled Cauliflower Steaks with Tahini Sauce look fantastic. I love the dish's simplicity--from its ease of preparation, flavoring, cooking, and eating. Other grilled veggie dishes tickle my fancy as well, but there are other surprises too, such as Grilled Eggplant Cannelloni with Ricotta and Prosciutto.
Mostly, I love it when grills are used for cooking non-meat items. That thrills me. Of course, I love a bloody rare steak thrown on the grill, too. Or a fish. A whole fish, please, eyes, fins, tail, and all, extra crunchy.
Also, you'll find fruit kebobs, planked papaya, and grilled banana splits, to name a few desserts. This is a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys cooking outdoors, and as June is upon us--the men in your life who enjoy grills and who don't wear ties; think Father's Day. Its recipes range toward the simpler side of the spectrum, so this is more for the working Dad who juggles grilling with diaper-changing, casserole dish creation, and active household management duties.
